Foul
noun an infraction of the rules more serious than a violation
If you didn't know, there are levels to the foul game. Fouls don't only occur in this capacity in the game of basketball. It's imperative you understand the difference and not become a "frequent fouler".
Personal Foul: The most common type of foul. Results from personal contact between two opposing players. Basketball features constant motion and contract between opposing players is unavoidable but significant contact that is the fault of illegal conduct by one opponent is a foul against that player.
Too often in dating people make unnecessary contact. That can be in regards to both physical and communication. There are boundaries that need to be respected and by crossing those you may be commuting a foul.
Flagrant Foul: Violent player contact that the official believed is not a legitimate attempt to directly play within the rules
In dating no amount of violence should be accepted especially physically. But we have all encountered someone who texts violently. Stanza upon stanza, or even one worded texts in succession all qualify as a flagrant foul in my book. Trust me there comes a time when you feel that a 4 page letter is called for, but please do so if and ONLY if absolutely necessary.
Don't violate the fact that you have someone's phone number. Please don't FaceTime without a "heads up" text. Nobody wants to see your face unannounced. We are not your mother!
Technical Foul: a foul that does not fit the description of regular fouls (unsportsmanlike conducts, illegal gamesmanship etc.)
This foul goes without very much explaining. In dating a technical foul can be anything that just infuriates you to the point that you may want to lay hands on the individual, throw your phone, pull your hair out or just scream. For every person the circumstances differ. For me, technical fouls exist when someone feels the need to tell me something I never inquired about.
I'm a firm believer in "if someone cares, they'll ask and if they don't ask, don't tell"
Dating isn't necessarily a game of baseball where 3 strikes mean you are automatically out. However, never get too comfortable knowing that you have a foul to give.
